Job Opportunity: Lead Scientific Research for Sustainable Fisheries Management

About the Role:

This position involves leading and managing high-quality scientific research projects for fisheries stock assessment. As the Senior Fisheries Research Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring studies meet world-class standards and inform critical decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement rigorous research methodologies for fisheries assessment studies
  • Pursue external funding opportunities to support research projects
  • Effectively communicate research findings to a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, industry professionals, and the public
  • Mentor and manage a multi-disciplinary team to achieve scientific goals and objectives

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • PhD in a relevant field with extensive experience in fisheries assessment and sustainable management practices
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage senior scientific teams to achieve research goals
  • Strong analytical skills, including data curation, modeling, and computer programming expertise
  • Ability to identify research priorities and secure external funding to support projects
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NSW commercial fishing practices and species biology
