Description

The Youth Mentor Volunteer role is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people between 16 and 24 years old who are experiencing homelessness. As a mentor, you will provide valuable support and guidance to your designated mentee, helping them build sustainable lives through education, employment, and social connections.

You will engage in social and recreational activities with your mentee, share your knowledge and experiences to assist them, offer a consistent and non-judgmental relationship, and encourage them into other relationships. You will also help promote your mentee's self-esteem and identify their strengths, and support them in making choices and setting goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in social and recreational activities with your designated mentee
  • Share knowledge about your own education, career, and life experiences to assist your mentee
  • Offer a consistent, non-judgmental relationship and encourage your mentee into other relationships
  • Help promote your mentee's self-esteem and identify their strengths
  • Help with goal-setting and support your mentee in making choices
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate a commitment to learning the Advantaged Thinking approach to working with young people. You will require a generous and positive outlook, with the ability to explore and encourage others to follow their interests. Strong relationship skills, communication skills, and knowledge are essential, as well as self-awareness and the ability to ask for help and support when needed.
