Job Summary

As a Practitioner at the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency, you will play a critical role in supporting families with young children. You will work closely with an Aboriginal Early Years practitioner and specialist practice leads to provide wraparound support to families, empowering them to share their story in a culturally appropriate and trauma-informed manner.

Key aspects of this role include:

  • Linking families with maternity and birth supports, key partners, and stakeholders to address identified needs.
  • Implementing culturally appropriate and trauma-informed engagement, information gathering, planning processes, and ensuring active involvement of families in decision making.
  • Empowering families to share their story in a way that is meaningful to them.
About the Role

This position requires a deep understanding of colonisation, intergenerational trauma, and other issues impacting Aboriginal families, children, and young people. You will need to demonstrate a commitment to working in a culturally respectful and competent manner with Aboriginal families and communities.

Additionally, you will need to possess:

  • A diploma qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Nursing, or substantial experience in these fields.
  • Well-developed skills in engaging with families and communities, including communication, empathy, and problem-solving.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment, with a focus on collaboration and mutual respect.
