Job Opportunity: Policy Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our government department as a Policy Officer. This is a labour hire role until EOFY, ideal for Canberra-based candidates with NV 2 clearance.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will have experience working across government and technical expertise in STEM fields. They will work with legal policy officers to assess foreign arrangements under the Foreign Arrangements Scheme, engage with existing assessment methods and recommend improvements, produce accurate assessments in a timely manner to facilitate consultation with stakeholders, support briefing and advice to ministers, and engage with relevant stakeholders to promote the Foreign Arrangements Scheme interests.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of scientific or technological cooperation, research, and analysis
  • Critical evaluation skills to assess risks and formulate mitigations
  • Strong stakeholder liaison and communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to incorporate new information into advice
  • Experience in foreign and strategic policy (not essential)

Preferred Backgrounds:

  • Critical technologies, cyber, telecommunications engineering, geospatial science, photonics/optical sciences, medical research, oceanography, or life sciences
