Social Support Specialist

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Peer Support Worker for our Journey to Social Inclusion program. This position is part-time and based out of Barwon.
As a Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals who have experienced homelessness to secure housing and improve their quality of life. You will use your lived experience to mentor clients, help them build skills, provide emotional support, and transition from homelessness to housing.

- Key Responsibilities:
- Use lived experience to mentor clients and help them build skills.
- Develop relationships that encourage self-determination and support clients in achieving case plan goals.
- Assist clients with activities, accessing support services, and creating new engagement opportunities.
- Advocate for clients and participate in case conferences and planning.
- Share relevant information with the team to address client needs.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to service planning.
- Foster a supportive team environment and ensure quality services for clients.
- Maintain accurate client records and adhere to TSA standards.
- Commit to continuous improvement and contribute to TSA's Strategic Plan.
- Manage personal wellbeing and seek support when needed.
- Identify and report risks to clients, staff, and TSA.
- Follow health and safety policies and identify service gaps for improvement.
- Engage in supervision, yearly reviews, and monitor personal training and development with the line manager.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential skills and qualifications:
- A lived or living experience of resettling in a home after experiencing homelessness.
- A strong commitment to social justice, human rights, and client-centered practice.
- Ability to facilitate active engagement with people experiencing vulnerabilities and history of complexities in areas such as homelessness, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, disability, and family violence.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team.
- Willingness to participate in training and professional development.
- Commitment to continuous improvement of services.
- Understanding and application of the principles of confidentiality and privacy.
- IT and administration skills.
- Strong alignment to the Values of The Salvation Army.
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- A current and valid Working with Children's Check.
- A valid Victorian Driver's license.
