Special Education Support Assistant

This role involves providing support to students with individualized education programs in a variety of settings.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • - Assist students in learning activities off school grounds.

  • - Provide academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support to students as needed.

  • - Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or alternate academic achievement standards.

  • - Manage behaviors that impact the student's ability to access the curriculum.

  • - Participate in general education classes and/or specialized instructional settings throughout the school day.

  • - Pull out for individualized or small group reinforcement of instruction.

  • - Perform various instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and practices applicable to the assignment. They will also be able to assist with implementation of the instructional program, participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior, and exhibit patient behavior when working effectively with children, young adults, and staff members.
