Support Student Success as a Special Education Paraeducator
This role provides critical support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) at the direction of school administrators. Responsibilities include participating in learning activities off-site, assisting students with diverse needs, and managing behaviors that impact student access to curriculum.
The paraeducator may be required to participate in general education classes and/or specialized instructional settings throughout the school day. They will also collaborate with teachers and other professional staff in all classrooms or learning environments.
All new paraeducators are hired at a grade 15 and have the opportunity to advance to a grade 16 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period and required training hours.
This position requires flexibility in scheduling and location as needed. The paraeducator must be able to continue planned instructional activities during a teacher's temporary absence from the classroom.
Key qualifications include knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies of the educational institution. The ideal candidate will exhibit patience and effective communication skills when working with children, young adults, and staff members.
Physical Demands:
Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
Special Requirements:
Outside duty may be required. The paraeducator must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling and change of location and/or program as needed.
