About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Advocate to join our team at North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in providing support and advocacy to individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Trauma-Informed Crisis Response: Conduct risk and needs assessments, develop safety plans, and coordinate emergency accommodation and home safety upgrades.
  • Deliver Services Grounded in Feminist Analysis: Provide support and advocacy services that are informed by a feminist understanding of the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.
  • Liaise with Internal and External Agencies: Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to ensure holistic support and services for clients.
  • Support Clients in Navigating Court Processes: Assist clients in obtaining protection orders and navigating court processes.
  • Participate in Community Education and Awareness Activities: Engage in community education and awareness activities to promote the work of North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service and raise awareness about domestic and family violence.
Requirements
  • Tertiary Qualification in a Relevant Human Services Discipline: A degree in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, or counseling.
  • Minimum of Two Years of Professional Experience: Experience working in a related field, preferably in a domestic and family violence context.
  • Deep Understanding of First Nations Cultures and Intergenerational Trauma: A strong understanding of the impact of domestic and family violence on First Nations communities and the importance of culturally competent practice.
  • Strong Decision-Making and Case Management Skills: Ability to make sound decisions and manage complex cases.
  • Ability to Communicate Complex Information Sensitively and Effectively: Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex information in a sensitive and effective manner.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: Earn between $43.08 and $46.35 per hour under the SCHADS Award Level 4.1 classification.
