About this role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Legal Advisor to join our Business Banking Legal team, providing strategic legal assistance to drive business growth and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have strong commercial legal skills, experience in financial services law, and the ability to effectively contribute at senior levels. They will provide high-level analytical and critical legal decision-making capabilities to assist in attaining strategic goals in a safe and customer-focused manner.

The role involves assisting with general banking and financial services advice on business banking transactions and lending products, new product innovation, regulatory matters, and contractual negotiations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal advice to support business growth and customer satisfaction
  • Assist with general banking and financial services advice on business banking transactions and lending products
  • Support the development of new products and services, including those utilizing digital and emerging technologies
  • Advise on regulatory matters, including breach advisories and responses to regulator requests
  • Negotiate contracts with counterparties and identify opportunities to simplify relevant frameworks and processes

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law and 5+ years of post-admission experience (PAE)
  • At least 4 years' experience in private practice, ideally in a similar role
  • Excellent technical legal skills, including the ability to quickly grasp and resolve complex issues
  • A thorough understanding of the commercial and regulatory environment affecting Business Banking
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex issues
  • A team-oriented outlook, sense of humor, ethics, integrity, sound judgment, and humility
  • An interest in learning about new practice areas and products
