We're seeking an experienced Principal Legal Advisor to join our team and drive our business success by providing expert guidance and advice to our stakeholders.

About the Role

This is a pivotal role where you will be responsible for guiding and advising various business stakeholders on legal aspects of their defined areas, including new projects, incidents, business initiatives, acquisitions, regulatory change and improvements to systems and products.

  • You will use your legal expertise to assist the General Counsel and business stakeholders to manage risk through provision of timely, accurate and practical legal advice.
  • You will assist in the review, draft and negotiation of contracts and commercial agreements.
  • You will provide independent legal advice on various matters, including national consumer credit protection, Australian competition and consumer act, general corporate law, banking law, franchising law and intellectual property law.
What You Will Do

As a Principal Legal Advisor, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert legal guidance and advice to business stakeholders on legal aspects of their defined areas.
  • Assisting the General Counsel and business stakeholders to manage risk through provision of timely, accurate and practical legal advice.
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts and commercial agreements.
  • Providing independent legal advice on various matters.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 3-6 years of post-qualification experience in corporate banking, structured finance, regulatory compliance and advisory.
  • A degree in Law and eligibility for a NSW Practicing Certificate, or current Practicing Certificate.
  • Proficiency in retail banking law and general corporate commercial law.
  • A strong communicator, eager to influence and contribute to discussions across the business.
  • Strong skills in dispute resolution, mediation and negotiation.
