Senior Occupational Health and Safety Manager

Hastings Deering is recruiting for an experienced Senior Occupational Health and Safety Manager to join our team on a permanent, full-time position in Mackay, Queensland.
Reporting directly to the Executive Manager - Safety & Sustainability, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of safety and sustainability functions in designated Business Centres; ensuring compliance with Company safety systems and standards as well as legislation and Business Centre Safety Improvement plans.
Main Responsibilities:
- Implement safety strategies and initiatives to improve safety performance while ensuring compliance with Company safety systems and standards and OH&S Legislation.
- In conjunction with the Executive Manager – Safety & Sustainability identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
- Ensure mine-related safety alerts, cases, and incidents are managed accordingly.
- Oversee incident investigations and lead investigations.
- Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to Safety Advisors and other internal stakeholders including Business Centre Managers as required.
- Manage employee safety programs.
- Develop and ensure effective communication and relations with clients and act as Company liaison for on-site matters.

Essential Requirements
You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Relevant experience in a safety role within a diversified Company.
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Experience in Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordination.
- Previous experience managing HSE policies and procedures for a multi-geographic diverse organisation within the Mining or Heavy Equipment industry.
- ICAM or recognised root cause analysis qualifications.
- Lead Auditor and Cert IV in Workplace Training Assessment (Desirable).
