Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Legal Officer to join our team. As a Senior Legal Officer, you will play a critical role in preparing complex matters for prosecution and providing expert legal advice to stakeholders.

About the Role:

  • Preparing complex matters referred to prosecution (including appeal submissions) in a professional and timely manner
  • Effectively managing relationships with stakeholders, including defence counsel, solicitors, police officers, victims and witnesses
  • Appearing as an advocate to prosecute or defend appeals in the District Court, sentences in the Magistrates and/or higher courts and represent the Director at bail applications, mentions and call overs in the Magistrates and/or higher courts
  • Liaising with complainants and relatives in prosecutions especially in relation to matters involving sexual and violent offences
  • Supervising, motivating and leading legal officers and legal support staff in the delivery of legal services

Key Requirements:

  • Admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia
  • Proven ability to apply legal principles, draft legal documents and provide legal advice
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to supervise, train and mentor legal and support staff
  • Maintain a high standard of professional competence and ethical conduct
