Legal Aid Queensland is the state's largest law practice, employing some of Queensland's leading lawyers.
This is an exceptional opportunity for law graduates who are eligible for admission to take on a position delivering high-quality legal services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people. As a junior lawyer, you will be supervised to prepare cases and advocate on behalf of clients and provide advice about legal matters.
We support our staff through ongoing professional development opportunities, mentoring, access to psychological wellness training and a balanced approach to work.
- Deliver quality legal services by conducting casework including taking instructions, undertaking research and analysis, preparing documents, preparing matters, instructing counsel and if admitted, appear as a lawyer in various courts and tribunals to effectively advocate for legal aid clients.
- Provide an efficient and effective legal service to clients in accordance with legislation and directions, policy, guidelines and practice standards.
- Support Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform and legal service delivery initiatives as required and participate in the development of team plans and work practices.
As a junior lawyer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing an efficient and effective legal service to clients in accordance with legislation and directions, policy, guidelines and practice standards.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Knowledge of various legal jurisdictions and procedure, legislation relating to those various areas of law and relevant ethical standards.
- Commitment to self-development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the law, procedure and the principles of trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner and engage effectively with stakeholders including clients with complex needs.
