Job Overview
The position of Geospatial Systems Specialist involves leading the development and management of geospatial systems and services across various projects. This includes overseeing the coordination, governance, and day-to-day service delivery to ensure spatial data remains secure, accessible, and aligned with legal and cultural protocols.
This role requires guiding a skilled GIS team to use spatial data with accuracy, integrity, and cultural respect throughout their work. The specialist will contribute to land claims, leasing, cultural mapping, and environmental planning to establish spatial data as a trusted foundation for collaboration with Traditional Owners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement geospatial systems and services strategies to meet project objectives.
- Manage day-to-day service delivery, ensuring timely completion and quality results.
- Collaborate with GIS teams to enhance the use of spatial data in decision-making processes.
- Ensure adherence to legal and cultural protocols when managing spatial data.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography, surveying, geography, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in using GIS software, particularly ArcGIS Pro and geodatabase environments, including spatial data analysis and high-quality cartographic production.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising staff, managing workflows, and coordinating project delivery within a GIS or related technical environment.
- Familiarity with Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 and Native Title Act 1993, or ability to quickly acquire this understanding in context.
