Family Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated professional to work with Aboriginal children and families in the child protection system, aiming to improve outcomes and strengthen family capacity. This role supports safe family preservation or reunification, in collaboration with government and sector partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Aboriginal children and families in the child protection system to support holistic wellbeing (physical, emotional, social, cultural, spiritual).
  • Assess risks, develop culturally grounded safety plans, and strengthen family connections to culture and community.
  • Implement strength-based and healing practices, advocate in the Children's Court, and maintain accurate case records.
  • Build collaborative relationships with families, community organisations, and government partners to ensure culturally safe, wrap-around support.

About You / Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Social Work or related degree (child development, trauma, family dynamics) with practical experience, or
  • Diploma in Community Services (2+ years) with a child welfare focus, fieldwork, and case management training.
