Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to work in a fast-paced environment, delivering exceptional animal care and support to research projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake all animal related duties and responsibilities with the highest standards of ethics and animal welfare.
  • Day-to-day care of laboratory rodents, including cage changing, food and water provision, and daily health checks.
  • Weaning and sexing of animals, including collection of biopsy tissues for genotyping as required.
  • Basic manipulation techniques, such as handling/restraining, injections, euthanasia.
  • Operation of sterilizing equipment, including autoclaves, VHP machine, and regular quality controls.
  • Contribute to the successful completion of research projects by participating in animal experiments and adhering to research protocols and associated standard operating procedures.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess strong tertiary qualifications in Animal Science or equivalent experience, combined with excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Strong understanding of animal welfare principles.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal care and welfare.
  • General experience in handling rodents is desirable.
  • Able to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adhere to strict timelines.

Special Requirements

  • Some out-of-hours work or participation in weekend and public holiday rosters may be required.
  • Tasks may involve physical and repetitive activities.
  • This role is not suitable for individuals with existing allergic conditions.
