Key Role in Queensland Conservation

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Principal Conservation Officer. As part of the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation's Threatened Species Program, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and evaluating recovery strategies for endemic Queensland species.

Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of strategic, evidence-based projects that make a real difference in the conservation of Queensland's unique biodiversity. As a Principal Conservation Officer, your primary responsibility will be to design and deliver targeted conservation initiatives across the state.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement species recovery strategies aligned with the Threatened Species Program 2020—2040, working closely with government agencies, research institutions, First Nations Peoples, non-government organisations (NGOs), and community groups.
  • Lead the development of targeted conservation initiatives, including project planning, fieldwork, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring effective partnerships and influencing positive conservation outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong ecological knowledge and experience in the management of threatened species, as well as excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You should also have experience in planning and delivering projects, operating within procurement frameworks, conducting fieldwork, collaborating with project partners and contractors, and meeting deadlines.
