The position of Coal Technologist is crucial in the coal industry, requiring a blend of geological and metallurgical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide technical governance to ensure best practice methods across geological and metallurgical activities associated with coal wash plant sampling, on-site laboratory tasks, production work, and borecore testing facilities.
- Offer technical support for the wider coal group across shipping, production, and wash plant activities. Analyze samples to determine their composition, structure, and properties.
- Participate in systematic audits as required. Assist with coal mine wash plant audits with processing of samples.
- Carry out geological and metallurgical processing activities such as coal beneficiation to remove rocks, dirt, ash, sulfur, and other contaminant and unwanted materials to produce high-quality coal.
- Ensure accurate results are reported by clearly understanding laboratory testing tasks.
- Work efficiently and productively to meet client turnaround times.
- Plan and schedule test work within guidelines and priorities set by management.
- Undertake laboratory analysis on production, exploration, trains, and superintendent coal samples.
- Process coal exploration samples, including geochemical work such as flotation and density separation as required.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in coal sampling, sample preparation, and coal testing.
- Experience working on a mine site – on-site laboratory environment.
- Experience in Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) circuits sampling, audits, and processing.
- Experience in Coal Exploration Programs – Coal Flotation and Density Separation.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Highly motivated.
- Proven organisational skills.
- Professional attitude.
