Editorial Leadership Role

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to drive our masthead's coverage forward. As Deputy Editor, you will report to the Editor and lead a high-performing team to produce original reporting and analysis that matters to our readers.

This role is ideal for an experienced journalist or early career editor with strong news sense, proven leadership skills, and a passion for delivering distinctive journalism across platforms.

Daily Editorial Planning
  • Lead daily and long-term editorial planning while setting coverage priorities.
  • Guide impactful journalism that drives engagement and reader loyalty.
Content Development
  • Commission, edit and publish high-quality content across print and digital platforms.
  • Ensure clear, authoritative reporting and alignment with our editorial standards.
Team Management
  • Mentor and support reporters, encouraging exclusive reporting, strong sourcing, analytical depth, and enterprise journalism.
  • Assist in managing rosters, workflow coordination, leave management, and print planning.
Digital Strategy
  • Drive digital strategy and collaboration, including SEO and social media planning, story placement, and participation in newsroom conferences and briefings.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least five years' journalism experience, including demonstrated ability to edit and lead complex coverage.
  • Strong news judgement, with a track record of identifying original, high-impact stories.
  • Experience working with reporters to develop ideas, strengthen reporting and refine storytelling.
