Arts Team Leader Job Description

This role provides leadership to arts staff within the broader Arts and Culture team, with a strong focus on History and Heritage.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direction to arts staff, overseeing staff across History, Heritage and Galleries, and helping to bring Council's cultural collections and programming into a cohesive framework.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in arts and cultural programming, with a strong understanding of gallery operations and heritage collection management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead collaboration within the Arts and Culture team
  • Plan and instigate arts and cultural initiatives that engage diverse audiences and support strategic goals
  • Deliver a program of exhibitions, programs and interpretation that attract and interest new audiences and repeat visitors
  • Work collaboratively to deliver engaging exhibitions and public programs that inspire, educate, and connect diverse audiences
  • Preserve local history and enhance community participation through creative initiatives

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in history, museum studies, art curatorship or relevant discipline
  • Experience in historical collection development, assessment and recording, together with knowledge of archival principles and practices
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills for documentation of research, preparation of reports, correspondence, and project documentation
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and liaison skills
