Job Title: Laboratory Assistant

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant in the Faculty of Science. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering essential support to staff within the Chemistry and Physical Sciences Technical Services team, ensuring effective, safe, and sustainable operations in laboratory facilities.

  • The Laboratory Assistant role is a key position that requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a scientific chemistry laboratory or industry research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general assistance in alignment with policies and procedures to enable efficient support of teaching, research, and engagement activities.
  • Assist with purchasing, repairs and maintenance, logistics, preparations, clean-up and disposal, resourcing, and data collections.
  • Identify resource and facility developments to support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of a collaborative service culture.
  • Engage in opportunities for professional development to ensure knowledge and skills are aligned with contemporary industry practice.
  • Comply with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Completion of an associate diploma, with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, in a scientific chemistry laboratory or industry research environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively to achieve team-based outcomes in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality client service.
  • Proven ability to analyze, adapt and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with a range of diverse groups, and work effectively within a team in a demanding and high-paced environment.
  • Proven ability in the use of correct manual handling techniques and/or physical aids, and maintain and support an effective health and safety culture.
  • Hold a current C-class driver license.
