Sydney, New South Wales, Australia SLR Consulting Full time

Principal Consultant, Climate Change & Net-Zero Strategy

About the Organization and the Position
At SLR Consulting, we are dedicated to making sustainability a reality. As a leading international environmental consultancy, we have earned a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, customized services. With a workforce of nearly 850 professionals in the APAC region, we offer expert advice and support on a variety of strategic and site-specific challenges to a diverse and expanding clientele, including businesses, regulatory bodies, and government entities. We foster a 'One Team Culture' that values diverse perspectives and collaboration to achieve outstanding results.

We are looking for a Principal Consultant to meet the increasing demand for Climate Change & Net-Zero Strategy in the APAC area. This role presents an exciting opportunity to engage with a variety of projects and clients in the sustainability sector, allowing you to advance your career in a dynamic and enjoyable environment.

Your responsibilities will include direct involvement in the planning and execution of client projects for major national and multinational corporations across multiple industries. You will manage complex client engagements with guidance from the team lead for Climate Change & Net-Zero Strategy, while also being encouraged to enhance your skills and professional network both internally and externally.

This position is part of our Climate Change & Net-Zero Strategy team, focusing on delivering services aligned with the forthcoming Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS). Key services include GHG Emissions Accounting, Renewable Energy Solutions, Target Setting & Decarbonization Strategies, and the identification, assessment, and management of climate-related risks and opportunities, utilizing climate scenario analysis. Although based in Australia, you will collaborate with the broader APAC team to provide tailored services that comply with various regional regulations.

Key Responsibilities
In addition to being an exceptional team player, you will be responsible for:

• Leading client project teams as the project manager, offering technical support to junior team members, managing commercial risks, and serving as the primary contact for clients.

• Acting as a client relationship manager, interpreting client needs, and effectively communicating client objectives to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Supporting the development and mentorship of junior colleagues.

• Collecting data through various methods (interviews, surveys, focus groups, data requests) and, when necessary, modeling and constructing scenarios.

• Creating presentations and reports for clients.

• Driving new business development by drafting proposals and participating in pitches, including research, project scoping, proposal writing, and presentation delivery.

• Conducting research, writing articles, and delivering marketing presentations to position SLR and yourself as a trusted authority in sustainable business practices.

• Assisting in the creation of new client products and services based on market demands and trends.

• Expanding professional and industry connections by representing SLR at virtual and in-person events (conferences, panels).

Required Skills and Experience
While we hope you meet all the criteria, having most of the following qualifications is a great start:

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

• Proven expertise in climate change strategy, including:
o GHG accounting and corporate carbon footprint development, including Scope 3
o Familiarity with various net-zero, carbon-neutral, and other sustainability frameworks (including SBTi)
o Experience in developing and implementing decarbonization strategies, including renewable energy and fleet transition plans
o Knowledge of carbon offsetting and residual emissions strategies
o Experience conducting climate change risk assessments for organizations, including climate scenario analysis.

• Understanding of the core requirements of TCFD recommendations and IFRS S2, as well as developments in ASRS.

• Ability to accurately identify the strategic challenges faced by clients and contribute to the scoping and execution of client engagements that deliver value and impact.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for delivering client-ready presentations.

• Proficiency in distilling quantitative and qualitative data and conveying it clearly to clients.

• Educational qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's Degree preferred).

• Technical knowledge in renewable energy is highly regarded.

Our Benefits
We take pride in our unique culture, where collaboration on projects leads to the best outcomes for our clients. Whether you work in the office, from home, or a combination of both, we recognize that every individual is unique, and our benefits are designed to cater to all:

• Flexible work model (in-office & remote) - you choose your optimal work environment.

• Additional paid leave options of up to 10 days for personal rejuvenation, supporting others, or focusing on your professional growth.

• Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents throughout their journey, including 12 weeks for primary caregivers and 4 weeks for secondary caregivers (with the option for an additional 8 weeks if you become the primary caregiver within 18 months of the child's birth or adoption).

• Comprehensive learning and development opportunities, including a mapped career progression path, study assistance, and up to 3 subsidized professional memberships.

• Employee Assistance Program to support your physical, mental, and social well-being.

• Opportunities for global and regional mobility, along with recruitment referral bonuses for both regional and global candidates.

• Additional perks include regular office social events, service anniversary awards, salary sacrificing options (novated car lease), and a corporate uniform shop with an annual allowance.
