Overview

The position of Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive patient care services. In accordance with the core values and strategic direction of the healthcare organization, this role is pivotal in improving quality and safety standards.

This nursing professional is responsible for conducting thorough assessments of patients' health status, diagnosing conditions, and developing treatment plans. They initiate therapeutic interventions, prescribe medications, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Within an interdisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner exercises autonomy while working interdependently to make referrals as needed. Their collaboration with patients and other team members enables them to identify trends and patterns impacting patient care, develop population-based strategies, and participate in policy-making activities that shape healthcare services.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and treatment planning.
  • Initiate therapeutic interventions, prescribe medications, and communicate with patients about their health status, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide seamless care, making referrals when necessary.
  • Develop and implement population-based strategies to enhance health outcomes.
  • Participate in policy-making activities to influence healthcare practices and services.
Qualifications
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing NP registrant.
  • Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
  • Two years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature.
  • Capacity to introduce education and evidence-based research.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to legal and ethical issues in patient care.
  • Self-assessment and accountability for professional development.
