Job Description

This role is responsible for providing effective maintenance and custodial services to ensure the campus facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to deliver excellent service, promote commitment to care and preservation of campus facilities, and create a welcoming environment reflecting standards of excellence in support of NSCC programs.

The Facilities Support Assistant will perform a full range of routine and special cleaning duties, including but not limited to:

  • Performing routine painting duties
  • Setting up rooms for rentals
  • Providing general, preventative, and scheduled maintenance duties

The hours of work will vary as required, with shift work and on-call duties as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  1. A high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain a high school diploma or GED prior to obtaining Regular status
  2. At least one year of experience as a cleaner, including operation of waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers
  3. Occupational experience in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical)
  4. Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, email, and Megamation
  5. Demonstrated experience providing general, preventative, and scheduled maintenance duties
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to interact effectively with diverse people
  7. Superior customer service skills, with ability to create trust beyond immediate interaction
  8. Strong team working skills, enabling contribution to positive team environment
  9. Specific technical occupational knowledge and skill operating auto scrubbers, carpet extraction equipment, and other custodial related equipment
  10. Familiarity working within and committed to complying with OHS policies and procedures
  11. Proven ability to follow oral and written instructions
  12. Excellent coordination skills, specifically related to coordinating services, work, events, logistics
  13. Commitment to lifelong learning and community involvement

You must also be able to perform all physical duties of the job as required for operation and maintenance of facilities and operation of small hand tools and shop equipment.
