Environmental Health Specialist with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) - Protecting our Troops and Securing our Nation

The ADF is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist to join our team in preventing disease and non-battle injury casualties. As an integral part of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC), you will be working alongside highly trained professionals to provide healthcare support to our troops.

The main cause of personnel loss during military operations is preventable disease and non-battle injury (DNBI). In tropical regions, Asia, and the Middle East, communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as heat and cold casualties, pose significant threats. Through realistic training and command-enforced health discipline, we can minimise DNBI-related personnel losses.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Assess environmental and occupational health threats by gathering and evaluating information from health intelligence sources, on-site surveys, and health surveillance.
  • Determine and implement countermeasures to minimise environmental and occupational health threats, including vector/pest control, water quality analysis, food safety, waste management, and sanitation.
  • Conduct health surveillance and use data to assess the effectiveness of countermeasures and plan investigations and health surveys.
  • Provide advice on Environmental Health Assistant issues to medical and non-medical personnel to promote health and prevent casualties.

This role is known as Techncian Preventative Medicine within the Army. The estimated salary for this position is around $80,000-$120,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
