Transportation Expert - Safe Road Infrastructure

Our organization strives to create new knowledge through research and develop the means for improving practice, ensuring safe and efficient transportation networks. We cover all modes of transportation, including roads, rail, ports, and airports.

Deaths and serious injuries on our road networks are a growing concern globally. In Australia and New Zealand, close to 1500 lives are lost and nearly 50,000 seriously injured annually. We aim to help bring about a step-change to reverse this trend and push towards zero deaths on our networks.

Current practices have delivered improvements but are no longer sufficient to drive down human tragedy. New thinking and solutions are needed, including challenging existing practices and implementing what still works. We challenge existing practice, discard or improve what contributes to reversal, and come up with real solutions that make transport safer for everyone.

Key responsibilities include diving into hands-on research, using first principles thinking to provide innovative solutions, collaborating with talented teams, getting mentored by seasoned professionals, gaining valuable insights into risk assessments across infrastructure sectors, and sharing work at public events.

Requirements for this role include tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering field, minimum 2-3 years' experience in transport safety, road/rail/ports & airports design or traffic engineering, ability to apply first principles thinking, good report writing skills, developing skills in leading projects and teams, and expertise in engineering practices and road safety guidelines applicable within the Australian/New Zealand context.
