Health Services Research and Epidemiology Position

The role of the Research Associate (Health Services Research/Epidemiology) involves working within a research team to support health services research and epidemiology projects.

  • This includes conducting surveys, literature reviews, data collection and recording results using appropriate research methods under the guidance of a research leader.
  • The position also supports the dissemination of research outcomes through suitable channels, and involves presenting at conferences and/or workshops.
Key Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Providing statistical and epidemiological support for intervention-based studies and grant applications.
  2. Conducting research activities, including surveys, literature reviews, data collection and recording results using appropriate research methods under the guidance of a research leader.
  3. Supporting the dissemination of research outcomes through suitable channels, and involving presenting at conferences and/or workshops.
  4. Working within a research team to achieve project goals and objectives.
  5. Maintaining accurate records and reporting progress to the research leader.
Requirements

For this role, you will need to have a PhD in Epidemiology/Statistics or a related discipline, and/or an appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training and/or professional accreditation.

  • Competency in a range of statistical software, preferably R, SAS and/or Stata, and previous experience working with large sets of data.
  • Experience working in the design and evaluation of trials would be beneficial.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research (including study design and implementation, grant writing, and ethics applications) and conduct independent research with limited supervision through engaging organisational stills, managing priorities, and demonstrating attention to detail.
  • Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Additionally, you will need to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate will also have a keen eye for detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a PhD in Epidemiology/Statistics or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral research experience. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of publishing research in top-tier journals and presenting at international conferences.

They will also have a strong background in statistical analysis and programming, with experience working with large datasets and implementing advanced statistical models. In addition, they will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
