Family Liaison Officer: A Role of Connection and Support

The Family Liaison Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth settlement of families into life in Australia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish strong relationships with various stakeholders, including Approved Employers, regional relationship managers, essential service providers, and local councils to guarantee timely support for families.
  • Facilitate connections between families and relevant migrant settlement resources, such as the Department of Home Affairs Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) program.
  • Position themselves as a key point of contact for families after arrival in Australia, including regular check-ins to monitor progress and provide guidance.
  • Serve as the primary contact or referral point for families and other stakeholders in the event of serious incidents.
  • Collaborate with Community Connections to establish informal groups for families to share experiences and support one another.
  • Identify and record common issues affecting families and children, addressing them proactively.
  • Work closely with the PLF Quality, Learning & Performance Team to gather and record information relevant to the Family Accompaniment pilot's Monitoring & Evaluation framework.
  • Deliver a comprehensive briefing to families on arrival, ensuring they are well-equipped to access required services and settle into life in Australia.
  • Provide ongoing support to families as they prepare to return home in the final months of their time in Australia.
Required Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, human services, social/behavioral sciences, community services, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in case management.
  • Background or experience working in migrant settlement, family support programs, or services is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of case management frameworks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in critical incident management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including children.
  • Current working with children and young people Blue Card (or equivalent).
  • Experience in data collection and database management.
  • Experience working in or with Pasifika communities is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of one or more Pasifika languages is beneficial.
