Financial Services Regulatory Lawyer

The role of a Financial Services Regulatory Lawyer is to work closely with key stakeholders in the financial services sector.

  • Licensing and Conduct Obligations: The lawyer will advise on licensing and Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, DDO breach reporting, claims/complaints handling, and unfair contract terms.
  • Credit & Consumer Protection: The lawyer will advise on consumer credit laws and obligations, including responsible lending, hardship, disclosure, and remediation. This involves working with diverse clients, from Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) providers and payday lenders to consumer finance platforms, on product design, distribution, and compliance strategies.
  • Regulatory Reform: The lawyer will advise on regulatory change programs and review post-implementation outcomes, including payments law reform, privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CTF), and whistleblower regimes.
  • Corporate Transactions: The lawyer will provide regulatory insight in corporate M&A and fundraising contexts, particularly for financial services.
  • Innovation and Digital Finance: The lawyer will advise fintechs and payment providers on navigating the evolving regulatory perimeter and licensing landscape.

We are seeking a technically strong, commercially-minded, and team-oriented lawyer who is excited by the opportunity to contribute to high-profile regulatory matters.

Key Requirements
  • 4-7 years' Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in financial services regulation.
  • Experience advising on BNPL, payday lending, consumer credit, or similar products and understanding their unique regulatory considerations.
  • Familiarity with key FSR legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to adapt, collaborate, and thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Legal advice that is both technically sound and commercially focused – able to support clients in achieving their business goals.
  • Client-centred, reliable, and meticulous approach.
  • Appetite to contribute to a vibrant team culture and develop expertise in a supportive and high-impact environment.
What We Offer
  • A supportive and flexible work environment.
