Our Corporate Advisory team is known for its collaborative and high-performance culture. We work closely across specialist sub-teams, including public M&A, equity capital markets, ESG, foreign investment, governance and financial services regulation to provide end-to-end legal support on complex issues and transactions.
About The Role
We are now seeking a talented Financial Services Regulatory (FSR) Lawyer to join our team, working closely with Partner Rachel Walker.
Rachel is recognised for her commercially pragmatic approach and deep expertise across consumer credit, licensing, compliance, and regulator engagement. She advises a wide range of clients, including major banks, private lenders, fintechs, BNPL providers and aggregators, on some of the most complex and high-profile matters in the sector.
In this role you will gain exposure to a broad spectrum of financial services regulatory work, including:
- Licensing and conduct obligations: Advising on AFSL/ACL licensing and Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act, DDO, breach reporting, claims/complaints handling and unfair contract terms.
- Credit & consumer protection – Advising on consumer credit laws and obligations, including responsible lending, hardship, disclosure and remediation. Working with a diverse client base, from BNPL providers and payday lenders through to consumer finance platforms, on product design, distribution, and compliance strategies.
- Regulatory reform: Advising on regulatory change programs and reviewing post-implementation outcomes, including payments law reform, privacy, AML/CTF and whistleblower regimes.
- Corporate transactions – Providing regulatory insight in corporate M&A and fundraising contexts, particularly for financial services.
- Innovation and digital finance: Advising fintechs and payment providers on navigating the evolving regulatory perimeter and licensing landscape.
We're looking for a technically strong, commercially minded and team-oriented lawyer who is excited by the opportunity to contribute to high-profile regulatory matters. You will ideally have:
- 4-7 years' PQE in financial services regulation.
- Experience advising on BNPL, payday lending, consumer credit, or similar products and understand their unique regulatory considerations.
- Familiarity with key FSR legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- You're adaptable, collaborative, and thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
- Your legal advice is both technically sound and commercially focused—able to support clients in achieving their business goals.
- You are client-centred, reliable, and meticulous.
- An appetite to contribute to a vibrant team culture and develop your expertise in a supportive and high-impact environment.
- A supportive and flexible work environment.
- Top of market remuneration and a range of benefits including 26 weeks paid parental leave, additional annual leave, subsidised café and gym membership, end of trip facilities, exclusive retail discounts, social events and much more, which you can view here: https://www.gtlaw.com.au/careers/benefits
- Beautiful sunlit open-plan offices with panoramic views of the city and easy access to public transport, restaurants, cafes and exercise facilities.
Please submit your interest via our career's website with a resume.
We are committed to providing and maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment and a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute.Seniority level
