Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join our team. As a Building Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that building development is compatible with community expectations and relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Permits and Approvals: assess and determine applications for approval, including Building Permits, Report & Consent applications, POPE applications, and others.
  • Investigations and Compliance: respond to and investigate community complaints and observed breaches of building legislation.
  • High Risk Buildings: investigate and ensure the safety of known high risk buildings and sites across the municipality.
  • Pool Safety: manage pool registration and safety barrier program in Hume.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and policies across the Building Control Services Business Unit, aligning them to community vision, legislative requirements, organisational values, and broader strategic objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying and Inspections, with relevant registrations to undertake the role.

• Experience at senior leadership level, providing supervision, guidance, direction, and advice to staff when required.

• Working knowledge of relevant Victorian building control legislation, Codes and Standards, including application of planning controls and local laws.

• Substantial experience in a building control office, including municipal building control, local government, and the building industry.
