Job Description

The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator role is responsible for providing extension services to the agricultural sector. The goal is to improve knowledge and adoption of climate-smart practices and facilitate understanding of carbon and biodiversity markets.

This position works closely with farmers, land managers, farming systems groups, agri-business, industry bodies, and agencies to deliver workshops, events, and activities that promote sustainable farming outcomes. These activities align with Australian Government objectives for sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective extension strategies to support the adoption of climate-smart practices by farmers and land managers.\
• Work closely with stakeholders to identify and address barriers to the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices.\
• Facilitate workshops, events, and training programs to build capacity and knowledge among farmers, land managers, and other stakeholders.\
• Collaborate with industry partners to leverage resources and expertise in support of sustainable agriculture initiatives.\
• Maintain accurate records and reports on project activities, progress, and outcomes.\
• Contribute to the development of policy and program initiatives that support sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.\
• Engage with communities and stakeholders to raise awareness and promote the benefits of sustainable agriculture practices.\
• Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in sustainable agriculture practices and develop strategies to address them.\
• Promote and advocate for sustainable agriculture practices and policies at local, state, and national levels.\
• Stay up-to-date with emerging issues and trends in sustainable agriculture and apply this knowledge to inform program design and delivery.\
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry bodies, and community groups.\
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in areas relevant to sustainable agriculture.\
• Contribute to the development of partnerships and collaborations to advance sustainable agriculture goals.\
• Support the development of business cases and funding proposals for sustainable agriculture initiatives.\
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainable agriculture programs and make recommendations for improvement.\
• Develop and implement communication strategies to engage stakeholders and promote sustainable agriculture practices.\
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to stakeholders on sustainable agriculture practices and policies.\

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Relevant degree in agriculture, environmental science, or a related field.\
• Proven experience in sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, or a related field.\
• Knowledge of climate-smart practices, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity conservation.\
• Understanding of Australian Government policies and programs related to sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.\
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.\
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.\
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.\
• Experience in facilitation, training, and public speaking.\
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.\
• Flexibility to travel and work in remote areas.\

• Valid driver's license and willingness to drive.\
