Collections Specialist - A Key Role at Georges River Council

Georges River Council is seeking a skilled Collections Specialist to join our team and contribute to the Hurstville Museum and Gallery. As a Collections Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Hurstville Museum & Gallery collection, including all aspects of record keeping via the collection management system. This role will also support the delivery of the Hurstville Museum & Gallery exhibition program through the selection, preparation, and continuous monitoring of items for display.

About the Role

  • This is a permanent, part-time position (21 hours per week, Monday to Wednesday).
  • The salary range is $48,927.73 - $56,690.15 per annum, plus 11.5% superannuation, dependent on the skills, qualifications, and relevant experience of the suitable candidate.

  • The successful candidate will be based in Hurstville CBD, a 5-minute walk from the train station.

About the Opportunity

  • The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Museum Studies, conservation practices, registration, or related fields.
  • They will also require a current Working with Children Check and demonstrated experience as a registrar, conservator, collections officer, or other experience working with a museum and/or gallery collection.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to undertake primary research and handle historical enquiries, experience in accessioning, handling, and storing a variety of historical material and artworks, and ability to undertake continuous improvements to collection management and perform preventative conservation processes when necessary.
  • The successful candidate will also possess highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective negotiation, consultation, and consensus building, and the ability to deliver a quality customer-focused service.
  • They should be able to work to deadlines and within a budget, innovate and adapt quickly to change, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to EEO, WHS, and the principles for a culturally diverse society is essential.

Requirements

  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (Class C)
  • Experience working with a multicultural client base
  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification
  • Ability to speak a relevant community language, e.g., Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek
