Lead Designer of Advanced Electro-Optical Systems

Kinexus Australia seeks a seasoned Optronics Engineer to spearhead the design and development of cutting-edge electro-optical systems, directly impacting national security.

You will collaborate with international experts, undertake advanced technical design studies, and integrate technologies including optics, imaging sensors, processing electronics, stabilisation mechanisms, and control algorithms into high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Electro-Optical Leadership: Lead electro-optical design studies, architecture definition, technology evaluations, and system performance assessments.
  2. System Requirements: Define high-level system requirements and develop comprehensive subsystem specifications.
  3. Modelling & Simulation: Develop models and simulations to validate system performance under real-world conditions.
  4. Technology Integration: Assess technologies across optics, sensors, electronics, and mechanical subsystems, integrating them effectively.
  5. Technical Collaboration: Work closely with international experts and suppliers, ensuring robust and innovative system designs.
  6. Design & Compliance: Lead design reviews, manage technical documentation, and oversee compliance assessments.
  7. Risk Management: Participate in risk analysis, cost estimation, and strategic planning for system production and deployment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Technical Expertise: Minimum 5 years' experience in optronic or electro-optical systems, including imaging payloads, stabilised gimbals, tracking systems, or optical sensors.
  • Optical System Design: Strong understanding of optical system principles, focal plane arrays (MWIR, SWIR, LWIR), sensor electronics, image processing, and real-time systems.
  • Modelling Tools: Familiarity with relevant modelling and simulation tools.
  • Cross-Functional Experience: Proven capability to lead technical integration activities and manage interdisciplinary challenges.
  • Security Clearance: Must hold BASELINE security clearance on commencement, with the ability to obtain NV1.
