Lead Optronics Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the development of cutting-edge electro-optical systems that directly impact national security.

The role offers a chance to collaborate with international experts, undertake advanced technical design studies, and integrate technologies including optics, imaging sensors, processing electronics, stabilisation mechanisms, and control algorithms into high-performance solutions.

  • Electro-Optical Leadership: Lead the definition, evaluation, and assessment of electro-optical designs and architectures.
  • System Requirements: Define system requirements and develop subsystem specifications.
  • Modelling & Simulation: Develop models and simulations to validate system performance under real-world conditions.
  • Technology Integration: Assess technologies across optics, sensors, electronics, and mechanical subsystems, integrating them effectively.
  • Technical Collaboration: Work closely with international experts and suppliers to ensure robust and innovative system designs.
  • Design & Compliance: Oversee design reviews, manage technical documentation, and conduct compliance assessments.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in optronic or electro-optical systems, including imaging payloads, stabilised gimbals, tracking systems, or optical sensors.
  • Strong understanding of optical system principles, focal plane arrays (MWIR, SWIR, LWIR), sensor electronics, image processing, and real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with modelling and simulation tools.
  • Cross-functional experience and ability to manage interdisciplinary challenges.
  • BASELINE security clearance on commencement, with the ability to obtain NV1.

Additional skills that are highly regarded include:

  • Experience in Defence, Aerospace, or Space sectors.
  • Knowledge of military or regulatory system development standards.
  • Understanding of stabilisation technologies, servo control, or embedded real-time systems.
  • Proven track record in managing technology maturation from concept through to prototype.
