**Job Overview**

We are seeking a Legal Officer or Assessment Officer to join our team in assessing blue card applications under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000. This is an opportunity to play a vital role in safeguarding the wellbeing of children and young people.

About the Role

As a Legal Officer, you will be responsible for processing and assessing blue card applications for people who have criminal histories or other assessable information. You will apply your legal knowledge to ensure only the right people are entrusted to work with children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess blue card applications in the best interests of children
  • Conduct risk assessments and draft clear, evidence-based recommendations
  • Liaise with applicants and stakeholders, gathering and recording critical information
  • Provide clear legal and procedural advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage case files efficiently and contribute to a high-performing, collaborative team
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and uphold our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion

What We're Looking For

We are looking for individuals with strong analytical and decision-making skills, as well as excellent written communication skills, especially in drafting legal documents and reports. You should also have the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.

Requirements

  • University degree in Law, Social Work, Human Services or Psychology/Behavioural Science
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, particularly the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000
