About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Cost Management Professional to join our team in Melbourne, Australia.
Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior construction cost engineer to provide cost support, guidance and recommendations to the project delivery team to ensure cost management and analysis across a portfolio of fast-paced construction projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing commercial support, validating construction cost estimates, drafting commercial detail and supporting documents, working seamlessly with multi-disciplinary teams, communicating cost control goals to all stakeholders, identifying value engineering opportunities, and defining and tracking cost performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage and manage third-party quantity surveyors contracted to provide commercial support.
- Validate construction cost estimates at various stages of design.
- Draft commercial detail and supporting documents for all capital appropriation requests.
- Work seamlessly with multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external.
- Communicate cost control goals to all stakeholders effectively.
- Identify value engineering opportunities in the design and quantify the savings.
- Identify project risks and the financial cost impacts associated with them and communicate to the broader team.
- Define and track cost performance metrics and lead monthly cost reporting.
- Analyse and provide timely feedback of vendor proposals using AWS benchmark data.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Project Controls, or related field.
- 10+ years of cumulative experience in construction cost control/cost management, with specific knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or CSA cost elements.
- Experience managing the estimating or commercials on a major Data Center or other mission-critical construction portfolio.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
While not required, preferred qualifications include:
- Experience reviewing and justifying budgets and estimates.
- Experience communicating estimate strategy to construction and non-construction professionals.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create and maintain documentation.
- Experience with estimating software such as CostX.
