Key Policy Officer Role

The forestry sector plays a significant role in broader forest and timber industry policy development, providing strategic guidance to the Queensland Government on plantation licence management.

As a core business unit, Forestry is responsible for administering the sale and marketing of State-owned native forest timber, quarry material, and other forest products. Key activities include apiary site management on State Forests and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and authorities.

This role involves working closely with a team of passionate professionals who are committed to making a positive impact within the forest and timber industry.

As a relatively small business unit, you will have opportunities to work directly with senior management and receive on-the-job coaching and development support.

Forest and timber policy in Queensland is complex and dynamic, requiring effective policy development and implementation strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development of the Queensland Timber Action Plan to provide a future direction for the forest and timber industry in Queensland.
  • Designing and implementing policy initiatives to support sustainable future timber supply in Queensland.
  • Preparing and reviewing departmental and whole-of-government policy papers, submissions, reports, and briefing notes on Queensland forest and timber policy.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to identify and solve complex matters associated with the State's plantation licence.
