Research Analyst Role


The role of a research analyst is multifaceted and involves various responsibilities.

Job Description

Morningstar's research team provides independent analysis on securities, funds, markets, and portfolios. The team offers data on hundreds of thousands of investment offerings, including stocks, mutual funds, and similar vehicles, along with real-time global market data on millions of equities, indexes, futures, options, commodities, and precious metals, in addition to foreign exchange and Treasury markets.

The foundation of the company lies in its advocacy for investors' interests.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage analytical assignments on investments, managed funds, and products.
  2. Research and critically assess fund managers and their products.
  3. Write succinct and reader-friendly research reports.
  4. Lead fund manager interviews.
  5. Play a role in formulating and justifying opinions on investment strategies.
  6. Write articles, including sector wrap-up reports.

This role will be based in our Sydney office.

Requirements
  1. A passion for investing, demonstrated through personal knowledge of and interest in investment markets.
  2. Strong critical reasoning skills, and a preparedness to challenge the status quo with well-informed opinions.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, ideally with the ability to think and write creatively.
  4. Knowledge of the fund manager research process, ideally across multiple asset classes.
  5. Ability to use own initiative, work unsupervised, and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines.
  6. Proactive aptitude to building effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and acting as a representative of Morningstar.
  7. Strong attention to detail with proven analytical skills.
  8. Undergraduate degree, preferably in a finance or business-related discipline, with an interest in pursuing CFA or other relevant postgraduate studies.
