Job Overview:

As a seasoned commercial professional, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all commercial and contractual aspects of projects. This entails ensuring financial control, profitability, and risk mitigation throughout project lifecycles.

  • Lead the commercial function across subdivision projects, aligning with project budgets, schedules, and profitability targets.
  • Support the Estimating team with tender submissions, cost analysis, and construction programming.
  • Oversee contract administration processes, including contract evaluation, negotiation, finalisation, and execution in liaison with clients and company legal council.
  • Manage commercial risks and opportunities through proactive assessment of contractual obligations, scope changes, and variation claims.
  • Support the development and ongoing management of project budgets, cost forecasts, and financial reports; contribute to commercial performance reviews and risk assessments.
  • Support the procurement, negotiation, and administration of subcontractor and supplier agreements in accordance with company policies and project timelines.
  • Provide commercial oversight of project setup processes, including project securities, job folder establishment, and subcontractor onboarding.
  • Support the preparation of monthly cost vs revenue reports, invoicing, and forecasting to ensure strong project financial control.
  • Review and respond to client commercial queries and provide commercially sound advice to Project Managers and Senior Leadership.
  • Lead or support the negotiation and resolution of disputes and claims, escalating to the Legal team where required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of commercial and contract management within civil construction, particularly in land subdivision projects.
  • Apply advanced skills in cost planning, forecasting, budgeting, and commercial reporting.
  • Manage and negotiate variations, claims, extensions of time, and commercial disputes effectively.
  • Utilize high-level proficiency in project financial systems and tools, including Microsoft Excel and financial tracking software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business objectives and commercial performance.
  • Mentor, guide, and support junior commercial staff to foster growth and development.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Commerce, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor or commercial role within the civil construction industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a commercial leadership role overseeing subdivision or infrastructure projects (highly regarded).
  • Current and valid C-Class Driver's Licence.
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card).
