Alcohol and Drug Clinician

This role is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people living in Residential Care.

The successful applicant will work closely with these individuals, providing education, treatment and support to help them overcome substance use issues and achieve their goals.

To be successful in this position, you will require experience in providing AOD services to vulnerable young people, as well as skills in motivational interviewing and creative therapeutic techniques.

A key focus of this role is to develop proactive Youth AOD residential withdrawal plans to prevent escalation or harm. You will also work closely with other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to supporting young people.

The ideal candidate will have substantial knowledge and experience in working with challenging behaviours, preferably in the alcohol and drug field. They will also possess strong assessment, counselling and support skills, as well as an understanding of developmental needs and family attachments.

This is a part-time position, 2 days per week until 31 October 2025, and offers a range of benefits including access to discounted health insurance and professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) education, treatment and support to young people with complex life issues.
  • Develop customised Youth AOD Secondary Consultation plans for vulnerable young people.
  • Work closely with young people exhibiting risk-taking substance use behaviours to develop proactive Youth AOD residential withdrawal plans.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications to Bachelor or Diploma level in social work, psychology, counselling or behavioural sciences.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in working with young people with challenging behaviours.
  • Skills in motivational interviewing and creative therapeutic techniques.
  • Strong assessment, counselling and support skills.
  • Understanding of developmental needs and family attachments.
  • Ability to work with other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to supporting young people.
