Drug and Alcohol Clinical Specialist Role

Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialists play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional care and support to individuals and families impacted by substance use. This position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.

This senior position within the health service involves providing expert consultancy services across various settings, including inpatient and community services, antenatal care, post-natal extended care, and case management services.

  • Stay current with the latest research and best practices in drug and alcohol clinical practice, maintaining expertise through ongoing professional development.
  • Provide high-level consultancy services to healthcare professionals, incorporating clinical leadership and collaboration skills to drive positive change.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to identify education needs and develop tailored training programs for healthcare staff.
  • Contribute to strategic and clinical service planning, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for drug and alcohol treatment, driving quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide expert consultancy services to healthcare professionals, including assessment, withdrawal, opioid, and other pharmacotherapies, psychosocial interventions, and treatment planning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement education programs for healthcare staff, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Contribute to strategic and clinical service planning, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse/Midwife registration with relevant professional bodies.
  • Minimum 5 years full-time equivalent post-graduate qualification experience in drug and alcohol clinical practice.
  • Proven clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across various mediums.
  • Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence-based research relevant to drug and alcohol clinical practice.
