Ecological Field Officer Job Description">

We are seeking a highly skilled Ecological Field Officer to join our team at the Fenner School of Environment and Society. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting ecological surveys and biodiversity monitoring in Booderee National Park, owned by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community and jointly managed with Parks Australia.

  • This role involves hands-on ecological fieldwork, including flora and fauna monitoring using established protocols.
  • The Ecological Field Officer will have the opportunity to engage with First Nations peoples and build strong cultural competence.
  • You will also contribute to surveys at other ANU study sites across south-eastern Australia.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to work on-site in a highly diverse coastal ecosystem and contribute directly to long-term ecological research.

The successful applicant will be based near Booderee National Park and undertake regular fieldwork. To succeed in this role, you will need to bring ecological field skills, cultural competence, and familiarity with the fauna and flora of south-eastern Australia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct ecological surveys and biodiversity monitoring in Booderee National Park.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement research projects.
  • Contribute to the development of reports and publications.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. ecology, conservation biology, environmental science).
  • At least 3 years experience in ecological fieldwork.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
