Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trust Officer Assistant to join our team at the Northern Territory Public Guardian and Trustee. As a Trust Officer Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional customer service to the public through the efficient legal and financial administration of trusts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer standard legal and beneficial trusts, including the resolution of legal issues, identification and realisation of assets, decision making relating to expenditure and investments.
  • Prepare financial planning budgets in consultation with represented persons, guardians and other interested parties and engage with relevant parties in the course of administration of trusts.
  • Prepare financial statement reports for tribunal hearings.
  • Attend to the management and realisation of assets of represented persons and the application and redemption of funds.
  • Assist with frontline administration through phone and front counter services including the registration of Wills and Advance Personal Plans.
  • Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development, act professionally at all times, demonstrate cultural competence and operate within the boundaries of agreed policies and procedures.
  • Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to deal with challenging customers, in a tactful and sensitive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds, diverse cultures and people with disability.
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills, including proven ability to prioritise workloads, use initiative, with the ability to work within mandated time frames, maintain accurate records including financial accounts with good attention to detail whilst operating in an environment with rapidly changing demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision, establish positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders including trustworthiness in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to obtain an understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines to support the service delivery to represented persons.
  • Proven skills in the use of information technology systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, email applications and TRM.
Desirable Qualifications
  • An understanding of the general activities of a trustee organisation in accordance with the Trustee Act, the Public Trustee Act and Guardianship of Adults Act or the demonstrated ability to acquire such knowledge.
  • Ability to obtain understanding of a trust accounting system such as PNR or similar to support the service delivery of customer service in a trust environment.
