Lead Design Engineer - Crane and Hoist Expertise

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering group, you will be responsible for designing and specifying cranes, hoists, and load-handling systems. Your expertise in structural and dynamic analysis will enable us to deliver safe and efficient solutions.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and specifying cranes, hoists, rail-mounted equipment, and load-handling systems.
  • Analysing load movements, paths, and dynamic behaviors.
  • Preparing lift rigging and motion studies to ensure compliance with Australian Standards.
  • Applying structural and mechanical engineering principles to deliver strong, fatigue-resistant designs.
  • Leading package management activities, from specification through to FAT and SAT with suppliers.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders across operations, maintenance, asset ownership, and regulatory bodies.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in machine design, particularly cranes, hoists, and rail-mounted equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of structural and dynamic analysis, with experience applying standards such as AS3990, AS4100, AS1170, and AS4024.
  • Hands-on experience preparing rigging and motion studies.
  • Demonstrated success in supplier and package management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • A strong safety mindset and ability to embed risk management in design.
  • Australian Citizenship and eligibility to obtain an Australian Defence Clearance.
