Walter and Eliza Hall Institute is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to lead the Consumer Advisory Panel (CAP) and drive the strategic direction of consumer engagement at the institute.

About the Role

The Consumer Advisory Panel Chair will be responsible for facilitating activities of the CAP, providing oversight and guidance on consumer engagement, and leading the development of a highly engaged medical research institute. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the mission of WEHI's consumer engagement program, experience in best practice consumer engagement, and demonstrated collaborative leadership in the health sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction of the Consumer Advisory Panel and the consumer engagement strategy
  • Facilitate activities of the CAP and provide oversight and guidance on consumer engagement
  • Develop and implement a highly engaged medical research institute
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve the goals of the CAP and the consumer engagement strategy

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission of WEHI's consumer engagement program
  • Experience and knowledge in best practice consumer engagement and implementation
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership in the health sector
  • Lived experience and knowledge of consumer advocacy in the Victorian and/or national health sector
  • Understanding of the practicality of engagement with regional communities
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Sound planning and organisation skills and ability to cope well under pressure

Terms of Appointment

This is a volunteer position with an initial term of three years, with the possibility of a further three-year term. Meetings will be held bimonthly, with some out-of-session administration required.
