About the Opportunity

Santos Ltd is seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Engagement and Cultural Heritage Coordinator to lead our commitment to Aboriginal Engagement, ensuring the implementation of vital cultural heritage agreements for the Cooper Basin.

This is a Brisbane-based role that requires outstanding coordination, communication, and prioritization skills to foster and enhance relationships with Traditional Owner groups within the Cooper Basin.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in negotiation involving Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, as well as a sound understanding of the history and culture of Aboriginal communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and monitoring the Aboriginal Engagement Strategy (AES) for Santos;
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with key Indigenous groups and relevant government and other external stakeholders;
  • Acting as the Santos Company Cooper Basin coordinator with native title claimants regarding land access, consents, cultural heritage, and other obligations in support of operational requirements;
  • Working with relevant Indigenous communities to ensure the development of sustainable relationships between the company and the communities;
  • Providing expert advice to Santos on Indigenous-related issues and strategies;
  • Ensuring effective communication with relevant internal stakeholders on issues and actions related to cultural heritage management.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience in negotiation involving Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities;
  • Sound understanding of the history and culture of Aboriginal communities;
  • Knowledge of current government policy frameworks as they relate to Indigenous peoples and particularly in relation to indigenous participation in the resources sector;
  • Exceptional coordination skills and ability to prioritize tasks/requests/goals;
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal;
  • Robust experience working in a very dynamic workplace while staying organized and positive;
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office software;
  • Possession of a current Australian Drivers Licence;
  • Ability to travel to Cooper Basin and spend nights away from the home base as required.

Ideal candidates will also have an existing network within the Aboriginal communities, as well as extensive negotiation and mediation skills and experience, particularly in matters involving industry and Aboriginal peoples.

Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per annum
