About us and the role

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Queensland's earliest nature-based tourist destinations. It is a crown jewel of our properties.

The Vet Hospital team sees more than 16,000 wildlife cases a year. They aim to treat, rehabilitate, and release as many animals as possible as a free service to the community.

As a Research Assistant, you will assist with overnight koala trapping duties as required. This may be up to three nights a week in busy periods.

You will work independently and have high-level time management and organisational skills.

Additionally, you may be involved in daytime field work and other research projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with overnight koala trapping duties
  • Participate in research projects
  • Contribute to the treatment, rehabilitation, and release of wildlife

Requirements:

  • Experience with koala husbandry, handling, and capture
  • A highly capable and personable individual with a genuine interest and passion for wildlife, conservation, and research
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Flexibility, cooperation, and a positive attitude
  • A full driver's licence or a provisional P2 license
  • Livability within a 15-minute drive from the hospital
