Grounds Maintenance Specialist

This is a 5-month fixed-term, part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing with possible extension and/or permanency.

Our school values knowledge, integrity, and respect, with students performing exceptionally well in ATAR courses and winning awards from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority.

  • Maintain the school grounds in a safe and tidy condition, ensuring a conducive external learning environment for students and staff.
  • Oversee the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and various soft landscapes.
  • Maintain hard landscaping features like courts and paving, mark sports areas, and conduct minor repairs in alignment with departmental policies.

The role involves keeping gardening facilities, equipment, tools, and machinery in a clean and serviceable condition, reporting faults promptly, and adhering to safe work practices.

Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe work procedures and conduct risk assessments as needed.

Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health legislation and the management of hazardous substances are integral aspects of the role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the school's outdoor spaces are well-maintained and conducive to a positive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and take corrective action to mitigate risks.
Requirements:
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with relevant work rights.
  • Working With Children Check and National Criminal History Check clearance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Selection Criteria:
  1. Relevant work experience and skills in grounds maintenance and gardening.
  2. Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and protocols.
  3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
