Senior Financial Planning Analyst Job Description

A high-impact role that requires building robust Excel models, collaborating with technical teams, and influencing strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will excel in financial planning, business case development, and capital investment analysis.

About the Role

This is a standalone position that involves creating advanced Excel-based financial models to support business cases, tenders, and strategic decisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and building these models, as well as partnering with Asset Management and Engineering teams to analyse CAPEX proposals and assess investment viability.

The role also involves conducting thorough post-implementation reviews to evaluate project value delivery, presenting key findings and financial recommendations to senior stakeholders and board members, and driving budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning initiatives.

A commercially astute individual with strong stakeholder engagement skills and a sharp attention to detail when preparing board-level reports is required. A strategic thinker who also enjoys getting hands-on with complex modelling and high-level financial discussions is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing and building advanced Excel-based financial models to support business cases, tenders, and strategic decisions

Requirements
  • A degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • CA/CPA qualifications are beneficial but not essential
  • At least 8 years of experience in financial planning, business case development, and capital investment analysis
  • A background in mining, asset-intensive industries, or engineering-led environments
  • Strong Excel modelling skills, with a passion for creating and managing financial models
